Students at John Foster Dulles Elementary returned to a refreshed garden space this school year thanks to a summer volunteer effort that brought community members and the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District together.
On Saturday, July 18, volunteers with Love La Mirada gathered at Dulles Elementary to transform the school’s garden into a welcoming outdoor space designed for students to enjoy for years to come.
The project included new garden beds built in advance by community volunteer Jim Zoellner and his son, helping prepare the space for the day’s work.
The effort was also supported by members of the NLMUSD grounds team. Peter and Jose prepared the garden area before volunteers arrived, allowing the group to get to work beautifying and completing the space.
Love La Mirada thanked the many volunteers who gave up part of their Saturday morning to participate, describing the project as an example of neighbors coming together to serve their community.
The Dulles project reflects an ongoing partnership between local volunteers, schools and the District to create spaces where students can learn, grow and enjoy their campus beyond the classroom.
