More than 50 cancer survivors, their families, and members of the PIH Health Cancer Care team gathered at Palm Park in Whittier for the organization’s first-ever Cancer Survivorship Picnic, a celebration recognizing the strength, resilience, and hope of those impacted by cancer.
Held in recognition of National Cancer Survivors Day, the event featured live music, health education, food, entertainment, raffles, and opportunities for survivors and their loved ones to connect with others who understand their journey. Music was provided by DJ Bryan Mejia, while Los 3 Tesoros Catering and Rita’s of Brea served refreshments throughout the afternoon.
According to PIH Health, cancer survivorship begins the moment a person receives a diagnosis, not only after treatment has ended. The picnic was designed to honor every stage of that journey while offering education, encouragement, and community support.
“Cancer survivors are part of a community that is often overlooked and underappreciated,” said Nina Solis, Cancer Survivorship Nurse Navigator for the PIH Health Cancer Program. “We want to highlight their resilience and unique needs and remind them that they are more than their diagnosis. This is also an opportunity to better meet the needs of the Whittier community through connection and health education.”
The event reflects PIH Health’s ongoing commitment to providing compassionate, comprehensive cancer care while building stronger connections with the communities it serves. Organizers hope the annual celebration will continue to grow as a way to recognize survivors and promote health education for patients and families alike.
PIH Health is a nonprofit regional healthcare network serving approximately three million residents throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties, offering a full spectrum of medical services including nationally recognized cancer care.
