Seven outstanding local students have been recognized not only for their academic success, but for something equally important, their commitment to serving others.

The La Mirada Community Foundation recently awarded scholarships to seven graduating seniors through its Bob Jenkins Community Service Scholarship program. The scholarship honors students who have demonstrated excellence in the classroom while making meaningful contributions to their community through volunteerism and service.

This year’s scholarship recipients were selected for embodying the spirit of community involvement that has long been a hallmark of the scholarship program.

The scholarship is named in memory of Bob Jenkins, a beloved La Mirada volunteer whose impact on the city can still be felt today. Jenkins served as President of the La Mirada Community Foundation and was involved in numerous community initiatives, including the “4 La Mirada Kids” Community Carnival, fundraising efforts for Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center, Independence Celebration activities, and many other civic projects.

Since its inception in 2005, the Foundation’s scholarship program has awarded more than $93,000 to over 100 graduating seniors, helping local students pursue higher education while reinforcing the value of giving back to the community.

At a time when communities across the nation are seeking positive role models for the next generation, these seven students serve as a reminder that leadership often begins with service. Their accomplishments demonstrate that academic achievement and community involvement go hand in hand, creating a stronger future for La Mirada and beyond.

As these graduates prepare to begin the next chapter of their educational journeys, they carry forward a legacy established by Bob Jenkins himself, a belief that communities thrive when people invest their time, talents, and compassion in helping others.
