Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District is celebrating one of its own after Gardenhill Elementary School teacher Julie Wright was named a 2026 Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year.
The prestigious recognition honors Wright’s nearly three decades of dedication to students and her commitment to creating classroom communities built on kindness, belonging and academic excellence.
For Wright, education has always been more than a career. Growing up in a family of educators, she saw firsthand the difference a dedicated teacher could make in the life of a child. Inspired by a beloved aunt and by her own experiences tutoring elementary students while in college, Wright found her calling in the classroom.
Over the past 29 years, she has worked to ensure that every student who enters her classroom feels valued, supported and capable of succeeding. Her impact extends beyond the students she teaches. Wright’s enthusiasm and dedication have also earned the admiration of her fellow educators.
“In the 20 years of our professional association, Mrs. Wright has been the most optimistic, hardworking, energetic teacher I’ve ever worked with,” one colleague shared.
The Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year recognition celebrates outstanding educators whose dedication, creativity and leadership represent the best of the teaching profession.
Wright’s selection brings that recognition home to Gardenhill Elementary and the entire Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District community.
Her nearly three decades in education serve as a reminder that the influence of an exceptional teacher reaches far beyond a single classroom or school year. It can remain with students for a lifetime.
Congratulations Julie on this outstanding achievement and your 29 years of service to students and families.
