After ten remarkable years leading the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, Producing Artistic Director B.T. McNicholl is preparing for a new chapter on the East Coast.
McNicholl has been named Producing Artistic Director of the historic Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, Pennsylvania, where he will begin his new role on June 22. The announcement marks the end of a significant era for the La Mirada Theatre, which has flourished under his leadership.
During his tenure, McNicholl helped elevate the 1,251-seat venue into one of Southern California’s premier regional theaters. Under his guidance, audiences enjoyed Broadway-caliber productions, expanded programming, and a strengthened artistic reputation. His vision balanced professional excellence with community accessibility, helping the theater reach new audiences while maintaining high production standards.
A protégé of legendary director Mike Nichols, McNicholl brought extensive experience from Broadway, national tours, and international productions. His career includes work on acclaimed productions such as Spamalot, Billy Elliot, and Cabaret, along with collaborations with renowned theater artists including Stephen Daldry, Sam Mendes, and Stephen Sondheim.
His next destination, Bucks County Playhouse, is one of America’s most celebrated regional theaters. Founded in 1939 along the Delaware River, the playhouse has earned a national reputation for artistic excellence and has hosted generations of notable performers.
Local leaders were quick to acknowledge McNicholl’s impact on the community.
While the search for a successor has not yet begun, McNicholl leaves behind a lasting legacy of artistic achievement, community engagement, and professional excellence that will continue to shape the La Mirada Theatre for years to come.
