The magic of Broadway returns to La Mirada this month as the beloved musical Anastasia takes the stage at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in a lavish new production presented by McCoy Rigby Entertainment.
Inspired by the beloved 1997 animated film, Anastasia transports audiences from the final days of Imperial Russia to the vibrant streets of Paris during the Roaring Twenties. Filled with mystery, romance, adventure, and unforgettable music, the production tells the story of a courageous young woman determined to uncover the truth about her past.
At the center of the story is Anya, a young woman with little memory of her origins but an unwavering belief that she belongs somewhere beyond the life she has known. As she searches for answers, she finds herself pursued by a determined Soviet officer intent on silencing her journey. Along the way, she joins forces with a charming conman and a lovable former aristocrat, setting off on an epic adventure filled with unexpected twists, heartfelt discoveries, and the possibility of finding both family and love.
Audiences can expect breathtaking scenery, elegant period costumes, and a soaring musical score by the celebrated songwriting team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. The production features fan-favorite songs from the animated film, including “Journey to the Past” and “Once Upon a December,” along with additional music created specifically for the Broadway adaptation.
The musical’s book was written by the late Terrence McNally and is based on the play by Marcelle Maurette, adapted by Guy Bolton. This La Mirada production features musical direction by Ryan O’Connell and direction and choreography by Parker Esse.
Opening Night was Saturday, June 6, and reception immediately followed the performance.
