La Mirada City Council has 5 Doctorate Degrees – likely unmatched in the local areas

In the vibrant community of La Mirada, a unique characteristic sets its City Council members apart from many others: each council member possesses a doctorate degree in their respective fields. John Lewis, Esq.: Juris Doctorate in Law, Attorney

One prominent figure among the La Mirada City Council members is John Lewis, Esq. Having earned a Juris Doctor degree in law; Lewis brings extensive legal expertise to the council. With his deep understanding of legal principles and experience as a lawyer, he plays a crucial role in creating and revising needed ordinances to keep up with the demands of the ever-changing needs of the City. Steve De Ruse: A Doctorate in Ministry, Pastor

Steve De Ruse, currently mayor pro tem, is an esteemed member of the La Mirada City Council and holds a doctorate in ministry. As a pastor, De Ruse’s educational background in theology and his spiritual guidance greatly contribute to the council’s decision-making process. Anthony Otero: Doctorate in Policy, Planning, and Development, LAPD Captain

Captain Anthony Otero is serving his first term as Mayor. With his doctorate in Policy, Planning, and Development from the University of Southern California, he brings a unique blend of academic expertise and practical experience to the La Mirada City Council. His background in policy-making and planning, combined with his role as a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Captain, allows him to approach community issues from a comprehensive standpoint. Otero’s insight into public safety matters and his commitment to community engagement make him an instrumental figure in shaping the city’s future.

Ed Eng: Doctorate in Organizational Leadership

Ed Eng, a member of the La Mirada City Council, holds a doctorate in Organizational Leadership. His educational background and business acumen as a former Fortune 500 executive equip him with the essential skills to facilitate efficient governance, catalyze an innovative culture, and strengthen the decision- making processes. With his deep understanding of organizational dynamics, Eng helps foster effective creativity and collaboration within the council and ensures the city’s initiatives are carried out successfully. His leadership qualities contribute to the overall quality and productivity of the council’s operations.

Andrew Sarega, Esq.: Juris Doctorate in Law, Lawyer / Attorney

Andrew Sarega, with his Juris Doctorate degree in law, brings a legal perspective to the La Mirada City Council. Councilmember Sarega has also obtained his Master of Public Administration degree from National University and a Juris Doctor degree from Chapman University, Fowler School of Law. Councilmember Sarega has served as the chairman of the Contract Cities Membership Committee, Gateway Cities Council of Governments, California Contract Cities Association, League of California Cities, and as a Regional Councilmember on the Southern California Association of Governments.

La Mirada is fortunate to have a City Council composed of individuals who possess doctorate degrees in their respective fields. The diverse educational backgrounds and professional experiences of John Lewis, Steve De Ruse, Anthony Otero, Ed Eng, and Andrew Sarega contribute to the council’s ability to address a wide range of issues facing the community.
