After attending a screening of Disclosure Day, we finally made our way to Hanami Teppanyaki Grill, a restaurant that has generated quite a bit of local buzz since opening in Norwalk in 2022. The restaurant operates in a fast-casual format, but don’t mistake that for fast food. Every meal is cooked to order, and management makes no apologies for the wait. In fact, a sign posted near the counter explains that each order is individually prepared to ensure freshness. We had been told to expect a 30- to 45-minute wait during peak hours, and our experience matched that estimate almost exactly. For some diners, that may seem like a long time. For others, it is evidence that quality takes precedence over speed.
Menu prices are somewhat higher than what many people expect from a counter-service restaurant. However, once the food arrives, the reasoning becomes clear. Portions are generous, ingredients taste fresh, and the flavors are bold and satisfying. Nothing feels rushed or mass-produced.
What has helped Hanami build such a loyal following is consistency. Customers know what they are going to receive every time they visit, and judging from the restaurant’s extensive collection of five-star reviews, that reliability has become one of its greatest strengths.
