On May 17, 2026, the City of La Mirada opened the gates of Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center to celebrate a group of people who help make the community thrive year after year … its volunteers.
Hosted as the City’s annual Volunteer Appreciation Day, the event served as a thank-you to the countless residents who dedicate their time, energy, and talents to improving life throughout La Mirada. From service clubs and nonprofit organizations to community groups, faith-based organizations, youth programs, and civic initiatives, volunteers gathered with family members to enjoy an afternoon of fun, fellowship, and well-deserved recognition.
Guests were invited to spend the day at Buccaneer Bay, Splash!’s popular water attraction, while enjoying complimentary lunch provided by the City. The event offered volunteers a chance to relax, connect with fellow community members, and celebrate the collective impact they make across the city.
In announcing the event, City officials emphasized the important role volunteers play in maintaining La Mirada’s reputation as a welcoming, family-friendly community. “La Mirada is fortunate to have many wonderful volunteers who are dedicated to helping make our community an outstanding place to live, work, and enjoy life,” .
The appreciation day recognized volunteers from a wide range of organizations whose efforts often take place behind the scenes. Whether assisting at community events, supporting local nonprofits, mentoring youth, serving seniors, beautifying neighborhoods, or helping families in need, these individuals contribute thousands of hours annually to strengthen the fabric of the community.
Organizations throughout La Mirada were encouraged to share the invitation with their volunteer members, highlighting the City’s desire to personally thank those whose service often goes unnoticed.
Volunteerism has long been a defining characteristic of La Mirada. Community events, charitable programs, educational initiatives, and neighborhood improvement efforts frequently depend on residents willing to donate their time for the benefit of others. Events such as Volunteer Appreciation Day provide an opportunity to recognize that generosity and remind volunteers that their contributions are valued.
As families splashed through Buccaneer Bay and enjoyed an afternoon together, the message from City Hall was clear: La Mirada’s greatest resource is not its buildings, parks, or programs, it is the people who step forward to serve.
For one afternoon at Splash! the community paused to celebrate those who spend the rest of the year helping everyone else.
