The La Mirada City Council recognized the Benton Middle School Mock Trial Team for its top 10 finish in the Los Angeles Mock Trial Program at its January 9 City Council meeting.
The Mock Trial Program is an academic competition in which high school and middle school students compete at the county level. There were 122 schools competing for the Mock Trial Program. Benton Middle School students studied, conducted legal research, and learned about courtroom procedures. In the Junior Playoffs, Benton Middle School students were undefeated in Rounds 1 and 2. They made it to the final playoffs and received recognition for being among the top 10 teams.
The Mock Trial Team is led by Supervisor and Teacher Dr. Jodie Kim and the team includes Alissa Alvarado, Addison Bragg, Mariah Cano, Faith Choi, Yuna Chung, Keanna Concepcion, Carina Estrada, Kyli Garcia, George Allen Gonzales, Charissa Kim, Maya Kim, Megan Lee, Mia Ordonez, Natalie Orr, Alexa Perez, Kaitlyn Suzuki.
The Achievement Recognition program recognizes individuals who live, work, or attended school in La Mirada, and have achieved state, regional or national acclaim for outstanding accomplishments.
