Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District (NLMUSD), in collaboration with Luminace, announced the completion of a 3.2-megawatt solar energy project serving 12 district sites, including elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, a preschool, and the District Office.
The project reflects the districts commitment to sustainability and fiscal responsibility.
The solar systems are expected to reduce energy costs, lower reliance on fossil fuel-generated electricity, and offset approximately 2,380 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, the equivalent of removing nearly 555 passenger vehicles from the road each year.
District leaders, community members, students, staff, and representatives from Luminace gathered September 1, to commemorate the milestone and recognize the partnership that made the project possible. “This project is a win for our students, our schools, and our community,” said Tania Magaña, Superintendent of Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. “By expanding our use of clean solar energy, we are helping reduce emissions and contribute to cleaner air for the families we serve. Through our partnership with Luminace, the District was able to bring this project to our campuses without upfront costs while securing long-term energy cost stability. That allows us to be responsible stewards of public resources and continue investing in student success.”
