The City of La Mirada has been named a 2025 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in recognition of the City’s continued commitment to planting, maintaining, and celebrating trees throughout the community.
The Tree City USA designation honors cities that demonstrate a strong dedication to urban forestry through sound management practices, community engagement, and ongoing investment in their tree canopy. La Mirada’s recognition reflects its efforts to enhance neighborhood livability, promote environmental sustainability, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
“Trees are a vital part of our community’s infrastructure,” said Public Works Director/City Engineer Mark Stowell. “This recognition reflects La Mirada’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a healthy urban forest that not only beautifies our neighborhoods, but also improves air quality, reduces heat, and strengthens the health and well-being of our residents.”
The Tree City USA program, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, is a nationwide initiative that has recognized thousands of communities for their leadership in urban forestry. Communities earning this designation must meet four core standards, including maintaining a tree board or department, adopting a community tree ordinance, investing in urban forestry, and hosting an annual Arbor Day observance.
The City of La Mirada remains committed to preserving and expanding its tree canopy through ongoing maintenance, strategic planting efforts, and community education programs that encourage environmental stewardship.
