La Mirada’s 10th Annual Mayor’s Community Breakfast Celebrates Unity, Service, and Shared Purpose
La Mirada gathered once again, not just as residents, but as a community woven together at the 10th Annual Mayor’s Community Breakfast, a milestone event that reflected the very heart of the city: connection, service, and faith in one another.
Held at the La Mirada theater of Performing arts the room was filled with civic leaders, faith representatives, educators, first responders, and neighbors. The morning was more than a program it was a living reflection of La Mirada’s identity. From the opening welcome to the final benediction, the message was clear and consistent: “We are better together.”
The program brought together voices from across the community, including master of ceremonies Councilman Steve De Ruse, and Mayor Ed Eng. The keynote speaker Pastor David Neuman, alongside a diverse group of faith leaders represented multiple faiths and traditions. A moving Shofar sounding by Rabbi Len Muroff and Toby Porter set a tone of reverence and unity, while prayers offered for first responders, educators, students, and community volunteers reminded attendees of the shared responsibility carried by all. But beyond the schedule, something deeper unfolded.
This year’s message was rooted in the idea of a three-strand cord offered a powerful metaphor for La Mirada itself. As shared during the keynote, a single strand can break under pressure. But when strands are woven together, they gain strength, resilience, and purpose. That idea came to life in the stories told throughout the morning.
It lives in the quiet dedication of public safety officers who protect all residents regardless of differences. It shows up in acts of service, like neighbors feeding families, supporting seniors, and stepping in during times of need. And it thrives in the everyday connections between people who choose not just to live near one another but to truly care for one another. This is La Mirada.
A city not defined by buildings or boundaries, but by relationships. The event also highlighted the critical role of partnership, with sponsors ranging from Northgate Market as the presenting sponsor to organizations like YMCA of Greater Whittier, Kiwanis Club of La Mirada, Rotary Club of La Mirada, Temple Beth Ohr and many others whose continued support helps sustain community-driven efforts.
Their presence served as a reminder that community doesn’t happen by accident it is built, supported, and nurtured through shared investment. As the morning concluded, attendees were left with more than a message. They were left with a challenge. To move beyond proximity and into connection. To see a neighbor not just as someone nearby but as someone worthy of care.
To recognize that true strength is not found in standing alone, but in standing together.
In a time when the world often feels divided, La Mirada offered something steady, something grounded: A reminder that community is not just an idea it is a commitment. And here, in this city, it is alive and well.
