The Arts Colony of La Mirada (ACOLM) invites the community to an inspiring evening celebrating creativity, learning, and local artistic connection. On Monday, April 6, the organization will host an exciting live watercolor demonstration by internationally recognized artist Jason Li at the La Mirada Resource Center, 13710 La Mirada Blvd. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., with the demonstration beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, offering art enthusiasts, students, and curious community members the chance to see a master artist at work.

Li is widely admired for his luminous watercolor landscapes and expressive brushwork, capturing the delicate interplay of light, movement, and nature. During the demonstration, attendees will be able to watch his painting process unfold while hearing insights into his techniques and creative approach.

Classically trained at the Guangzhou Institute of Fine Arts and California State University, Fullerton, Li has built a distinguished career as an illustrator, art director, and professional fine artist. His paintings have been exhibited internationally and featured in publications such as American Art Collector and PleinAir Magazine. Collectors and institutions around the world hold his work. Li is a Signature Member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and an artist member of the California Art Club. His many accolades include Best in Show at the 2025 Laguna Plein Air Invitational, recognizing both his technical mastery and artistic vision.

The evening will offer more than just a demonstration. Guests can enter a raffle for the chance to win one of Ruben’s paintings and other prizes, enjoy light refreshments, and participate in a friendly art competition by bringing their own artwork to share with fellow creatives. The gathering also provides a welcoming opportunity to connect with other local artists and art lovers in an encouraging and collaborative atmosphere.

Founded in September 1963, the Arts Colony of La Mirada has spent more than six decades enriching the city’s cultural landscape. Through volunteer service and community partnerships, the organization has continuously promoted artistic appreciation while nurturing the talents of local artists.

One of its hallmark programs is the annual “Mirrors of Your Mind” Art Exhibition, which features 60 to 90 works created by local artists, including middle and high school students. The exhibit draws hundreds of residents each year and serves as an inspiring platform for young creatives while showcasing the artistic talent within the community.

ACOLM also hosts free monthly artist demonstrations, providing educational opportunities that make the arts accessible to everyone. In addition, the organization regularly participates in city events bringing creativity to families through activities such as face painting and hands-on art experiences for children.

Through decades of dedication, the Arts Colony of La Mirada has become a cornerstone of the city’s cultural life, helping to foster creativity, strengthen community connections, and inspire the next generation of artists.
