La Mirada Fishing Derby will be held at La Mirada Regional Park, Saturday, February 25, 2023, presented by Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation.
Children age five to 15 years of age are invited to participate in free fishing and angler safety lessons sponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation South County Community Services Agency.
A free pancake breakfast was sponsored by La Mirada Kiwanis, followed by the sound of the siren to start the fishing competition promptly at 8:00 am. Awards will be presented in each age category immediately after the Derby. Participants are requested to bring their own fishing pole, with a limited number of poles available for loan.
The rules are brief, this is a ‘kids only’ fishing event, with a five fish limit per participant and one fishing pole per child and each contestant had to reel in their own fish.
Senator Bob Archuleta has called La Mirada Regional Park ‘beautiful’ and probably one of the best in Los Angeles County. Over 1600 pounds of catfish will be brought in to fill the lake. Archuleta added, “It is a great day for a family fishing event!”
