The La Mirada City Council proclaimed March 21, 2024 World Down Syndrome Day at its March 12 City Council meeting.
The proclamation emphasizes the City of La Mirada’s ongoing commitment to spread awareness, educate about Down syndrome, and celebrate people who have Down syndrome and their abilities and accomplishments. This year’s theme, “End the Stereotypes,” is important because it stresses the importance of the right to be treated fairly, have the same opportunities as everyone else, and the freedom for people to make their own decisions. To spread awareness, it is encouraged for the community to wear crazy socks in celebration of people with Down Syndrome and the many ways they can make the world brighter.
