We had another great month here at Cerritos College as our team continues to work and support our students and community. I am excited to share with you some excellent news we received over the past month as we look toward the future of our campus.
Community Events Happening on Campus
We are hosting our first-ever Spring Community Festival in honor of Earth Day on Saturday, April 22. Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy carnival games, giveaways, and crafts. We encourage everyone to bring their family and friends for a fun day. The event will be from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Falcon Square. Parking will be free in Lot 10. I hope to see you all there!
We will hold our semi-annual free job fair on Thursday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the College’s Library sidewalk. Over 30 employers will be here from various industries, including healthcare, sales, retail, and government sectors. We encourage you to dress in business attire and bring copies of your resumes, as you can apply for positions on-site. It will be an excellent event for those looking for employment opportunities within our local area.
Registered Nursing Program Is Getting an Upgrade
The Cerritos College Registered Nursing Program received a $480,000 grant from the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) in connection with the Song-Brown Registered Nurse Education Program. While our nursing program already does an excellent job preparing our students for employment as an RN (with an average employment rate of 91% within one year of graduating), the medical field and its equipment and technology are constantly advancing. These funds will upgrade our nursing skills lab with modern medical equipment and technology, like virtual reality, to better prepare our students for what they will encounter when they enter the workforce.
Cerritos College Supports the Trades
Our Continuing Education Division was awarded three grants for a total of $1.5 million to develop workforce programs and opportunities for our Cerritos College students and community members. We are one of 18 recipients in California to receive the ERiCA grant, receiving $900,000 to support women in apprenticeships and building trades. These funds will support offering childcare and creating outreach programs to help build a strong community and increase resources available to women, non-binary, and underserved populations in our community. The remaining California Apprenticeship Initiative grants will specifically support Electrical and Metro Risk Management training.
Thank you all for your support as we look ahead to our future.
