The Norwalk / La Mirada School District staff welcomed new Facilities Coordinator, Jerome Cygan Jr. He will be working on projects at Huerta, John Glenn High School, La Mirada Adult School and District-Wide Solar Canopies.
Coordinated by School Safety, the Los Angeles Dodgers, generously provided approximately 250 tickets for middle school and high school students that helped School Safety raise awareness for “Say Something” week. All middle and high schools had a group attend the game with chaperones. The students were very excited as for many; this was their first time to Dodger Stadium.
In efforts to provide parents with easy access to student’s attendance and grades, Parent Portal accounts have been created for every NLMUSD family. This technology will simplify the registration process for the coming school year. Instructions have been posted on the District Enrollment page and staff training materials are available on the Technology Services SharePoint site. In addition, the returning student registration system opened on April 8. Families can easily update their information for the upcoming school year. Also, the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for District email accounts is currently rolling out. This important step helps protect student and staff information by securing email access outside the District network.
On March 26th the Norwalk / La Mirada Adult Education [NLMAS] held its Graduate Meeting for adult learners approaching the completion of their High School Diploma. Attendees received important details about the upcoming June graduation ceremony, available scholarships, and their next steps after graduation. A representative from Cerritos College provided insight into the enrollment support. Additionally, students learned about short-term career training programs available at NLMAS to help them transition into the workforce or further their education. To support students’ future goals, a host a NLMAS Job and Career Awareness Fair, on May 7th, 9:00-11:00 a.m., at the Excelsior Adult School Site.
On April 1st, State and Federal Programs concluded its 10-week parent training titled, “Loving Solutions” which focused on Positive discipline strategies to use with children. At this final session, parent groups presented on the various strategies they learned and how they applied these with their own children. Parent response to the workshop was overwhelmingly positive and they have been invited to share their experiences at a future DELAC meeting.
