The La Mirada City Council held their annual reorganization at the meeting held on Tuesday, July 13, 2023.
Last year fireworks erupted at the ordinarily tranquil La Mirada City Council meeting reorganization for mayor and vice-mayor council seats. When the time came to vote for the positions, embattled Councilman Andrew Sarega was passed over.
This year Steve De Ruse was elected as Mayor unanimously and Andrew Sarega voted as Mayor pro tem in a four-to-one vote [John Lewis abstaining].
Councilmember Andrew Sarega was elected to the La Mirada City Council on March 5, 2013, and re-elected on March 7, 2017 and June 7, 2022. He has been a resident of La Mirada for over 25 years.
Steve De Ruse was elected to the La Mirada City Council on March 8, 2011, and re-elected on March 3, 2015 and March 3, 2020 and has held the office of Mayor, four times.
De Ruse stated “This has been a year of growth on the Councils’ part, we have had many discussions, often difficult ones, but we are united and prepared to move into a new year.”
