La Mirada’s Youth in Government students concluded the 2024/2025 program at the City Council meeting held on February 25. La Mirada High School students participated in the award-winning program and made their final presentations to La Mirada City Council. The students proposed two projects, including a Cultural Festival and a Teen Center.
The proposed Culture Festival would promote diversity, inclusivity, and community by showcasing various traditions, arts, music, food, and performances that celebrate the many cultural identities within the city. The second proposed project was a Teen Center that aims to provide a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for teens to develop their skills and participate in enriching activities that promote personal growth and community involvement.
Youth in Government project proposals have often been implemented including Santa’s Holiday Caravan, the La Mirada College Banner program, and Farmers Market.
The presentation marked the conclusion of the program, which has been in place for 65 years. For additional information, contact La Mirada City Hall at (562) 943-0131.
