On Veterans Day, we come together to express our deep gratitude and appreciation for the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in our nation’s Armed Forces. This annual occasion stands as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices our veterans have made and provides an opportunity to honor their unwavering dedication to our country. Honoring our veterans is an important tradition in La Mirada and I encourage the community to attend upcoming events to recognize our local heroes.
A Veterans Day Ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 11 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the La Mirada Civic Center Plaza. The ceremony will feature guest speakers, patriotic presentations, and a planned military flyover.
Additionally, the City’s annual Salute to Veterans event will be held on Monday, November 13 at 6 p.m. at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. This event will include displays of military memorabilia, information on veterans’ resources, and a patriotic ceremony with memorable presentations, guest speakers, and musical entertainment.
The City will also honor local veterans with special recognition on the City’s marquee located in front of City Hall from November 7 through 14. La Mirada residents are encouraged to submit names of family members who have served in our nation’s military and reside in La Mirada. To be part of this special recognition, please submit their name, the branch of service they served, proof of La Mirada residency, and proof of their veteran status. All entries must be submitted by Friday, October 27 to vandrade@cityoflamirada.org. You can also call City Hall for assistance.
The City of La Mirada continues to honor active members of the Armed Forces through various programs. The Blue Star program provides flags to be displayed at the homes of families who have a loved one serving in the Armed Forces. The Military Banner program proudly displays the names of local service members along Rosecrans Avenue. Military Banners from those who have recently completed their service will be retired soon. We appreciate Eric L. Coger, Steven Gunritz, Richard Hutchins IV, Jacob Ledesma, Patrick Leonard, Isaak Olson, Jacob Olson, Eric Plumlee, Mckenna Ritto, Dakota Sun, and Troy Taylor for their service!
To honor La Mirada residents who gave their lives in service to our county, the names of 28 veterans are proudly engraved in the Eternal Flame Memorial located within the La Mirada Civic Center Plaza. The flame burns continuously above the names of those we honor in remembrance of their ultimate sacrifice.
On behalf of the City of La Mirada, thank you to all veterans for your sacrifice, bravery, and service. Happy Veterans Day!
Sincerely,
Steve De Ruse
La Mirada Mayor
