A strong storm cell passed through southeastern Los Angeles County Tuesday morning February 6, prompting sudden flooding in La Mirada, inundating several streets, and causing property damage throughout the city. The National Weather Service had issued a flash flood warning in the area, noting that heavy rain began falling just before 9:30 a.m.
Stormwater rushed through the local flood control channel at La Mirada Creek Park. Excessive amounts of water spilled over into streets close by and multiple retaining walls collapsed in the vicinity of La Mirada Blvd and Rosecrans Ave., wiping out backyards.
Accumulating over 8 inches of rainfall during the recent storm, La Mirada has already surpassed the city’s season average with almost 14 inches of rain since October 1, 2023.
