Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn has now collected 1,107 guns at Gun Buyback events she has held across her district since May 2022. The effort aims to give people a safe opportunity to remove guns from their homes and, in turn, make their families and neighborhoods safer.
“I have made a concerted effort to get guns off the streets of our neighborhoods and give people a safe opportunity to get unwanted guns out of their homes,” said Supervisor Janice Hahn. “Every gun that we collect means a gun that can’t be used to kill someone or in a crime, and I am especially grateful to have gotten assault weapons and ghost guns off the streets.”
Hahn held her fifth Gun Buyback event in at MacArthur Park in Central Long Beach on Saturday June 10 in partnership with the Long Beach Police Department. The event brought in 293 guns including assault weapons and ghost guns.
At each event, residents can bring in any firearms they have and turn them in exchange for gift cards purchased by Supervisor Hahn’s office. The guns are surrendered completely anonymously with no questions asked. Since May of last year, Supervisor Hahn has held gun buybacks in Lynwood, Long Beach, Wilmington, and Norwalk.
Supervisor Hahn is sponsoring an upcoming gun buyback in Hawaiian Gardens on Wednesday, June 21st from 10am to 2pm at the Hawaiian Gardens Public Safety Center.
