The La Mirada’s 2026 State of the City address painted broad picture of municipal stability — highlighting a healthy financial outlook, ongoing capital improvements, and encouraging public safety metrics, all framed within a long-range tactical vision through 2028.
Mayor Ed Eng, delivering the annual presentation alongside City Manager, Jeff Boynton and Seargent Oscar Rodriguez, stated the continued growth was rooted in five guiding priorities: fiscal strength, neighborhood safety, infrastructure investment, economic vitality, and robust community services. Eng acknowledged city staff and department leadership for preserving steady performance in all areas.
Financially, La Mirada began the 2025–26 fiscal year in a strong position. The city adopted a general fund budget of approximately $49.3 million, backed by anticipated revenues of $53.9 million resulting in a projected surplus. The city’s fiscal stewardship also earned continued national recognition, marking its 36th consecutive award for excellence in financial reporting.
Property values within the city showed measurable growth as well. Assessed valuation reached approximately $9.91 billion, reflecting an increase of just over 6 percent compared to the prior year a signal of both market strength and local investment confidence.
Development and construction activity remained active throughout the year. The city processed 3,205 building transactions, representing more than $108 million in total project valuation. Permit and plan check activity generated close to $2 million in associated fees, while public service counters logged 3,874 in-person visits, underscoring steady engagement from residents, contractors, and businesses.
Economic development messaging focused on La Mirada’s geographic advantage as a regional gateway community, paired with a relatively competitive sales tax structure and a reputation for safety factors officials say continue to attract and retain commercial investment.
A significant portion of the presentation spotlighted infrastructure work already completed across the city. Among the finished projects:
- Replacement of the Creek Park Bridge
- Street resurfacing along Imperial Highway and La Mirada Boulevard
Slurry seal maintenance near Rosecrans Avenue - Interior and exterior upgrades at City Hall, including fountain improvements
- Turf and irrigation enhancements at Stage Park and Alondra Park
