The City of La Mirada held its annual Youth in Government Luncheon on Friday, February 9 at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. Members of the La Mirada City Council and Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District were among the attendees. The City’s Youth in Government program partners students from La Mirada High School with City Councilmembers and staff in an effort to engage local youth in City programs and services. The program provides students the opportunity to learn about local government operations, develop their leadership skills, and become involved members of the community.
The luncheon serves as an opportunity for the participants of the program to meet with their counterparts in a formal setting. This year, Assemblymember Blanca Pacheco served as the keynote speaker at the event.
“The Youth in Government luncheon is a great opportunity for students to meet and hear from local elected officials,” says Senior Administrative Analyst Jorge Orozco. “Assemblymember Blanca Pacheco shared about her experience as an elected official and the importance of public service.”
The Youth in Government program concludes with the students presenting program proposals during the City Council meeting on Tuesday, February 27.
This year’s participants include Isabelle Alejandre, Sofia Alonso, Valerie Ascencio, Lianna Blancoromero, Hannah Cantrell, Isaiah Espinoza, Karisma Gomez, Mercury Gonzalez, Allyian Guloy, Miso Hong, Easton Imes, Itzel Luna, Alexa Martinez, Daniel Morales, Sofia Orozco, Tatiana Saucedo, Daliya Saychien, Julianne Souza, Madison Souza, and Kassandra Valadez.
