Los Angeles journalist Anabel Muñoz has built her career around a simple but powerful mission: telling the stories of people who might otherwise go unheard.
Today, Muñoz serves as a general assignment reporter for ABC7 Eyewitness News in Los Angeles, where she focuses on reporting about race, culture, and the experiences of vulnerable and underrepresented communities. Through her work, she helps bring important issues to the forefront while highlighting the resilience and humanity found throughout Southern California.
A lifelong Angeleno, Muñoz was born and raised in Los Angeles and says her love for the city is rooted in its diversity, culture, and the many stories that make up the region.
She attended Biola University, where she majored in journalism and minored in biblical studies, building the foundation for the reporting career she would soon pursue.
Before joining ABC7, Muñoz worked as an anchor and reporter at Noticias MundoFOX 22. Earlier in her career, she worked behind the scenes as a news assistant and assignment editor at KMEX Univision Los Angeles, eventually moving into reporting roles with Univision Palm Springs.
Those early experiences gave Muñoz a firsthand look at how journalism can inform communities and hold institutions accountable. They also helped shape her passion for community-centered reporting.
The proud daughter of Mexican immigrants, Muñoz says she felt called to journalism from an early age. She believes deeply in the power of storytelling to inspire change and give a voice to those who need it most.
In addition to her work in the newsroom, Muñoz frequently participates in community events and public affairs reporting, often highlighting issues affecting the homeless and special needs communities. Her reporting reflects a commitment to not only covering news, but connecting people with the realities faced by their neighbors.
When she is not reporting, Muñoz enjoys spending time outdoors and with family. Some of her favorite things include relaxing Sundays, beach days, swimming, Italian food, and the simple pleasure of a classic burger and fries.
For Muñoz, journalism is more than a profession it is a responsibility to tell stories that matter. And in a city as complex and vibrant as Los Angeles, there are always more stories waiting to be told.
